Mom and I

ah, you know how when you are doing something wonderful and fun time seems to just zip by... it is einstein's theory of relativity he once said notice how 2 minutes with your best girl goes much faster than 2 minutes with your hand on a hot stove...

well mom and i observed our own theory of Relative ity... we had a blast...

mom arrived to sunny california... and got the grand tour... we talked and talked, I dont think there was a minute of silence that first day...

not sure if i have mentioned this... but in order to maximize the beautiful view from the bedroom, i raised the bed (considerably) i believe about 8", couple that with the 18" mattress plus the height of the box spring - it is pretty high... that being said... on the first night, i was worried as mom being under 5' and with the bum knee would have a difficult time getting into bed - truthfully hadnt even thought of it till she asked me for a boost *big grin* after I 'assisted' we just killed ourselves laughing... after that first night she got the hang of it and didnt need help

we shopped and dined and took a spa nearly every night...

one afternoon we went to la jolla (la hoya - only the tourists call it ja jolla) and did the body show tour... that is the one that is real human bodies preserved. it was fascinating and haunting... being a child of the media and special effects - i had to keep reminding myself these were real people once...

to try to describe... is almost impossible... i / we have greater understanding of what is on the inside... it gave mom more perspective on what exactly is happening inside of her knee.

it was very cool - the human body is so amazing.

one day we "lunched" at the Hotel Del Coronado - it is among moms favorite places; very victorian, turn of the last century... the history - you can feel it... and rumour has it, it is haunted.

we watched the seals and the water at the childrens cove.

had a picnic at point loma high above san diego with a breath taking panoramic view...

now before you think mom got this trip our as a free ride - you dont know me very well! I put her to work... When i first moved in i had some shrubs removed out front with the intention of putting in a patio - but with quotes in the 5k range for a 8x15 patio - that moved quickly down my priority list.

anyway... i know that my home owners association isnt real happy having this big old patch of dirt out front so plan B...

saw a show on tv about the new generation of fake grass/lawn. so road trip, we went to check this stuff out... picture if you will the absolute worst cheap hawaiian lei you have ever seen and this is worse... but the end product amazing... the trick... the blades of 'grass' are about 3" long and as the salesman described it - an easy dyi project of adding sand to back fill it... that is the trick...

so cut the 'carpet' to fit the dirty patch... and mom and I filled in the sand... 10 50lb bags... (so much for easy - those salesmen) now you truly have to picture mom 'hard at work' laying down on the job... since the knee is the weak spot mom sprawled out on the grass and did her part... it was pretty funny - but really appreciated her help :-)

we watched the sunrise, and the sunset... we talked and laughed and just were...

I know i am blessed to have my mom as my friend... it was really hard to let her leave... must confess i did try to entice her into moving out to california... heck she could even have my place - i am seldom there *grin*

I will treasure that time and demand a redo... SOON!
